I don’t mean to be a snob . . . wait, yes I do. I could have refuted his claim about Schönberg as a sophomore Composition student.

Also, for being “pattern-free,” I thought it was odd that sometimes as many as six notes in a row sometimes belonged to the same triad.

Just a couple of random thoughts. The rest of my opinion is pretty much in line with yours and Tenney’s observations.

Augh. I so wanted to see the sonata performed in its entirety, since I’ve been hearing it in pieces for almost two years now, but I sadly have to be at a football game all evening. Perhaps I’ll have to just go to the October recital. I am incredibly excited to hear the Field Guide live, though!

“Nothing Gold Can Stay” is my favorite Frost poem. It’s often interpreted as being rather sad (as with your ‘sic transit gloria mundi’ reference), but I find it rather hopeful. That’s a whole other topic, though.

I hadn’t heard of this Lindsay poem before, but I’m finding that I really like the musical references when done with such flowing rhythms. It makes me wish I could see what everyone was doing with the music there.

I love this piece! The violinist that plays it has such a beautiful tone. These pieces all express so much and you can really feel with the music. I like your quote by the way, it made me smile.:)
